BUENOS AIRES, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Boca Juniors boosted their hopes of a playoff berth with a 3-1 away win over Newell's Old Boys in Argentina's Primera Division on Saturday.
Cristian Medina struck with a 28th-minute header before Luca Langoni's long-range effort and a cool finish from Julian Fernandez put the result beyond doubt.
Kevin Zenon pulled a late goal back for the visitors but it made little difference to the result as Boca cruised to their sixth win of the campaign.
The Buenos Aires giants are now fourth in Group B with 22 points from 12 games, a point ahead of fifth-placed Estudiantes with one matchday remaining in the regular season.
Newell's are sixth in the group, also with 21 points but with an inferior goal difference.
The top four teams from Group A and B will each progress to the quarterfinal stage.
In other fixtures on Saturday, Belgrano won 2-1 at Union, Talleres Cordoba were held to a 1-1 home draw by Independiente Rivadavia, Estudiantes romped to a 5-0 home win over Central Cordoba and Defensa y Justicia won 2-0 at San Lorenzo. ■
